1000 Finds

After a long hiatus from posting I decided to post, and will try to do it more regularly. We recently found our 1000th find, which was a huge accomplishment. When I was grabbing them everyday a counter told me I would have 1000 some time in April, but now here we are in the middle of June. This was a nice one to grab as I had completed the requirements 3 states in a day and finally made my way over to grab the cache. This cache's owner was someone that I know so it was even more special. Still caching regularly just not everyday. Current goal is to grab 100 FTFs and make get the 100 FTF challenge. Sitting at 91 it feels like it will take forever.

A Day Without Geocaching!

Yesterday I did not find a cache because I did not look for one. It was strange driving straight to work without going to some strange location and peaking in all of the hiding places. I think my favorite part of the journey was going to these places, seeing the beauty of Sacramento, and meeting awesome people along the way. Thanks Geocaching community for making this journey possible.

One Year!

Well the year is over to a fantastic end. We woke up this morning and found a tribute cache posted by Willmob. It was titled "I Love GeoCaching.. but 365 days is alot of days ". The cache was challenging to find. I arrived and searched by myself, then came back searching with with LewisClan and Gomez2335. Then came back again and it was found by Gomez2335, 3RKEN, and LaurieInSactoCA, and TeamLuLu. It was a great way to go for 366, which my wife exclaimed I had to go for since anyone can get 356. The past few days had been foggy and made for eerie caching. Later that day we traveled to the Explorit Science center only to find that it was closing due to lack of donations. Very sad as Littleman enjoyed visiting this place.

One More Day

Today I found a cache for the 364th consecutive day, the end of the journey is this weekend. Hard to believe that one year ago we found our first cache and were hooked instantly. My son over the year has added words only specific to geocaching to his small vocabulary. He knows that when he takes something out he must put something back. He will often try to slip in small rocks and twigs found near the cache site, and why wouldn't he since in his world they do have the same value. We have fully engaged ourselves in this sport/hobby and participate in the community. I have met amazing people through this journey and traveled to outrageous places.

Coming to the End, 800 Finds and a Couple FTFs!

Its been over a week since my last post and now we are in the home stretch. Rather than update on each find I will just go through the highlights.
The two Saturdays ago we attended a geocacher event. It is so much fun to meet up with others that do this crazy adventure. There were many people that I knew and others I had just met.
That Sunday we picked up our 800th find. On the next Monday I found a cache in the morning then on the way home noticed that I was right next to a parking lot that had contained a new one posted earlier that day. I decided to try and when I did I found the FTF. I also got another update on the way home and traveled to that one and got the co ftf with a bunch of fellow cachers. Everyday since that one was a single cache day.
I grabbed one in Indiana when I traveled there for a conference.  I tried for two but the snow stopped my attempt. This involved trekking in the snow to some really cool statues.

When you find one in different states you get little stamps on your geocaching accounts called souvenirs. I walked into the forest and the hint was at the base of a tree. There were hundreds of trees and the snow covered the bases. I felt I could have been there all day so I moved one.  We have nine more days to complete the year.  I hope that it passes easily.
It was foggy two days ago on the way to work so I got an eerie picture of a crazy looking tree.

201 Blog posts and 20 More Days!

As I was logging in to make a post I realized that it was my 201 blog post. That is a crazy amount! I am almost more proud that I actually stuck with the writing. I could have written more and more often but I kept it going. I forgot to tell a really funny story. I go to meetings regularly at my job with the campus police. This is not a strange thing but during this meeting one of the officers wrote mentioned he wanted to speak with me after the meeting. This too did not seem out of the ordinary since I am not really a law breaker. Towards the end of the meeting he wrote something down on a piece of paper and slide it over to me. As I looked at it I realized that my geocaching name was on this paper. Quickly since I am not a law breaker my heart raced and I thought about how I should not have placed those two caches on the campus. Then he asked if that was me. I replied yes and he let me know that one of my caches was challenging him.  Wow was I relieved that I was not in trouble....for a minute I thought my goose was cooked.   The week has been slow about a cache a day except on Thursday when I was luckily to grab two FTF's with my geocaching friend Quadventure. We are also five away from 800 finds. A week of caches and only one picture....oh well. The biggest challenge to the caching will at the end of the week. I am traveling to a location with out a car and in very cold weather. It will surely be tricky to get a cache a day. I have a plan but we will have to see what happens.

1-1-11.....One More Month!

I was off for a week so I did a little geocaching! I decided to get the Sacramento 115 minute challenge done this week and I had three days to do so. This is the challenge to find a cache in all of the Sacramento areas available to find one, they are called minutes. On Monday I found the upper portion of the grid and 9 caches.  This cache was crazy cause I had to hide behind the tree so that the kids couldn't see me open the container.
Two of the caches I found in areas that construction stopped when the market dropped.

When I got home I realized that I missed the one in the middle and the next day I picked up that one. This day was raining and I after I took this picture I realized I could make a hole album of empty road pictures.
The next day I finished the grid by finding 17 different caches and not finding 6. All of the caches were in lower Sacramento. Many of the caches were in parks.
Others were near crazy trees.
One was near a ditch on a old trail.
Some near bike trails
and more parks. It was a crazy day and the most caches I had found in a day outside of the crazy day in October. The last few days was back to one a day but I am into the final stretch.
