Today I took one of the two required furloughs this month and I spent the better part of the gloomy day geocaching. When I got up 6 new caches were posted around the 5AM hour. I decided to wait until Teri left in order to go and get them. Excited like it was Christmas the minute she left I was on the hunt. I quickley drove to the closest one in Roseville. I found the cache quickly and realized that I was Third to find. The container was kinda cool other than that not much interesting about this one.
I decided not to go for the other Roseville cache, thinking I would most likely be third again, and drove up to Lincoln. After a few wrong turns I found the location of the second cache. Here I should have taken a pic but forgot to, the cache was guarded by a giagantic dinasaur statue in someones backyard. Found the cache and realized I was second to discover.
Decided to heck with it, I've never been to Lincoln lets go for the other three. Upon arrival to ground zero of cache number three I found it was in the tree above my car about twenty feet up. I had a failed attempt at climbing the tree. The limb was a bit shaky and I thought I might break it off into my car. I found a stick and created a tool to get the cache. Yes a stick I do come from Monkeys. The location went from urban to suburban to jungle like in about an hour. After grabbing the container I found that I was again second and after using my stick returned the cache to its treetop.
Just down the road I arrived at cache four and a man was scouring the bushes. I asked if he was geocaching he said yes, we exchanged pleasantries and searched together. After a little thinking I crossed the road and found the cache. I said goodbye to my new caching acquaintance Toy Chaser and headed to the last cache.
I had not gone in a sequential order to the caches in fact I had crossed the path of road workers three times. The flag turner just laughed as I passed, he probably wondered what kind of idiot gets lost on a road to no where. I made it to the last cache on the same road and entered a country setting. This one reminded me of the many trips up to Discovery Bay that we made as kids. Not the Discovery Bay of today but the small delta community surrounded by farms. When we went up there was only one store and it was at the gas station. Now it is like every other town in California, full of strip malls. oh ya it also has a Delta, which makes it like very few towns.
After finding the container I opened it and to my delight it was empty! I have no idea why dstoye did not get out this far. It was only about 2 more miles down the road, either way his loss and my gain. dstoye got all of the FTF's in lincoln so far this morning. After the find I left and headed back to Sacramento with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. It was a great morning for geocaching.
After lunch I decided that I wanted to try for a harder cache so I found one on the way to TJ's daycare. When I arrived, I found the location and spent approximately 10 seconds looking when a woman exited the door by the cache, asked if I was a geocacher, when I replied yes she told me the cache is right there. It was an amazing container and I may not have been able to find it. The experience was so quick I did not take any pictures. I also spent the lunch time hour constructing containers to hid around Sacramento. I hid one near TJ's daycare now I just need to post it online.
