Friday we got on a plane early that morning to head to Geo Woodstock in Carnation Washington. I wore a shirt with a geocaching symbol and upon exiting the plane a geocacher came up to meet us. We exchanged names and he was from the Bay Area, he also seemed surprised that we did not know who he was. I let him know that we had only been geocaching for a few months. Another cacher came up and let us know that we met one of the best. Not sure at the time what that meant but I guess there are rankings to this sport. The event was the next day but there was a meet and greet for those that could make today. We arrived and grabbed our rental car and headed see some family in Seattle.
While there, in order to explain the geocaching, we took them to find two Caches. The first one was at a peak overlooking the Lake. We waited out the man sitting then found the cache. It was a micro so we headed to another. You can't really get a feel for the game from a nano.
After finding the next cache we went on to the meet and greet at Lake Sammamish. We met some new cachers and hung out with those from Sacramento.
These events are like geocache finds, in that they have a log that you must sign. This time it was a giant surfboard, and that is me waiting in line for the pen!
They also had a small GPS Challenge that we did with a few of the Sacramento Cachers.
They gave you coordinates that led you to locations that you then would stamp your paper. It was a fairly large event, but nothing like we would see tomorrow.
